Digital Marketing Intern | ODL, Inc.
Jan 2026 – Aug 2026 | Zeeland, MI · Hybrid
Eight months writing, filming, and reporting on social content for a national building-products manufacturer, from writing captions for various platforms and audiences to a live trade-show floor.
40+ individual campaigns written across four platforms
3 landing pages and 1 blog for internal & external audiences
280+ posts scheduled and tracked across the internship
8.4M+ total impressions across the channels I helped run
ODL manufactures and sells exterior doors, decorative door glass, and enclosed blinds for residential and commercial properties. This is a B2B brand selling into a contractor and remodeler audience, not a typical consumer storefront. I joined as their Digital Marketing Intern in January 2026, expecting a few months of hands-on social experience. I ended up staying with ODL through August, taking on more of the channel as the internship went on.
Day to day, this meant running the content calendar across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube, writing platform-specific copy, producing video, covering two national trade shows, a mobile showroom trailer program, and researching and writing a long-form blog for the company's professional site, all for a small digital marketing team.
The Role
Owning the Calendar
Strategy & Calendar Ownership
I managed ODL's shared editorial spreadsheet with the marketing team, scheduling, tagging, and tracking more than 280 posts between January and July alone. Every piece of content got categorized against a five-pillar brand voice framework of Solid, Soft, Risky, Polished, and Innovator, so this national manufacturing brand's tone stayed consistent whether the post was promoting a product launch or an employee spotlight.
I sat in on weekly performance check-ins with the team, where we'd look at what pillars, formats, and posting times were actually working and use that to shape the following week's plan. I was also the named owner on a number of scheduled campaigns in the 2026 collaborative calendar, running several recurring series and the trade-show coverage end to end.
When ODL's marketing team went through a personnel transition between two managers, I kept the social channels running on my own during the gap — which pushed me to get a lot more independent and confident in my day-to-day decisions.
March 2026 Social Calendar
Writing for Four Different Audiences
A caption that works on LinkedIn doesn't work on Instagram, and I wrote and adapted copy for more than 40 individual campaigns from January through September rather than cross-posting the same text everywhere.
Product Launches & Design Trends
Created posts for Rill glass, Garrison and Briselle doorglass campaign, the 2026 Colors of the Year, and a Diamond Trends carousel to translate technical product specs into language a homeowner or contractor would actually respond to.
“Spot the Difference” Interactive Series
Wrote and owned this game-style video format start to finish, built to drive comments and shares rather than just passive views. This is a lighter, more playful entry in the content mix.
Subject Matter Expert Interviews
Wrote copy for an ODL product expert interview on Impact Rated Doors, adapting the conversation into a "Couch Convos" campaign post across LinkedIn and Instagram/YouTube. The LinkedIn version alone reached 1,977 impressions and 170 interactions.
Seasonal Campaigns
Wrote and edited National Curb Appeal Month copy that worked in third-party survey data (a refreshed entryway can raise perceived home value by up to 3%) to back up consumer-facing claims with more than opinion. Video endings were tailored to platform.
Behind the Screens: Video Production
The biggest video project of my internship was promoting the ODL Mobile Showroom, a trailer that tours contractors, dealers, and remodelers through the product line in person. This was built around the campaign line “Trusted to Transform.” I used CapCut to produce platform-specific edits of the launch video, including separate cuts for Facebook versus Instagram and YouTube. The Facebook version alone reached 46.8K impressions, one of ODL's highest-reaching Facebook posts of the year.
I also handled the video side of ODL's three newest doorglass launches: Rill, Garrison, and Briselle. Each design received a “Sketch to Door"“style video showing the product coming together. Concept and filming were a team effort with our Creative Services group, but the editing and voiceover on every video in the series were mine. This is the first time I'd voiced a video professionally, and a skill I built specifically for this project in CapCut.
Separately, I concepted, scripted, and cast “Dream Door,” an employee-testimonial video series. This required drafting outreach to recruit on-camera participants from three different departments (Marketing, Customer Service, IT), building a non-scripted interview framework from scratch, and working with a graphics teammate to turn raw interview footage into a script-plus-motion-graphics production pipeline.
Building Pages, Not Just Posts
Fiberglass entry door styles page
Solo build in HubSpot. Highlighting door textures and door collections for the Mobile Showroom trailer program. Owned by myself from concept to launch.

Trusted to Transform Tour page
Built as a team of 3-4. I kept the live tour-stop dates and locations accurate as the schedule changed, supporting the Mobile Showroom trailer as it moved market to market.

ODL trade show events page
Built as a team of two for our internal audience. A running hub listing ODL's full 2026 trade show schedule so the team had a place to check where ODL would be next.

Trade Show & Event Marketing
I led real-time social coverage of the NAHB International Builders' Show (IBS) 2026, a 70,000-attendee industry event, producing day-of content. This included Reels, carousels, single-image posts covering booth promos, daily recaps, and product-finalist announcements. My "4 Trends for IBS" carousel pulled the best engagement rate of the internship, 316 interactions on under 1,000 impressions, and Reels like the water-bottle travel Reel and the Sierra Train wall Reel carried the booth's day-of energy across Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn in real time. The campaign's top post overall hit 5,357 impressions and 752 interactions. I also wrote up ODL's High Velocity Hurricane Zone door line being named a "Best of IBS" finalist by the National Association of Home Builders, turning an industry award into a shareable moment.
A few months later I covered the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC) 2026 in a similar way. The Day 1 launch post alone reached 12.01K impressions and 492 interactions. I also supported multi-platform coverage of the ODL Mobile Showroom tour, writing region-specific stop announcements as it moved.
For IBS specifically, I built and maintained a full post-event reporting workbook tracking reach, views, likes, comments, shares, and engagement rate for every post across all four platforms, the kind of detail that made it possible to actually say what worked.
Research & Long Form Writing:
Blog & SEO
Most of my work was short-form, but I also researched and wrote a long-form educational blog post, "Door Maintenance by Material: What Do Installers Need to Know." It compares fiberglass, steel, and wood entry doors for a professional contractor audience and was published on ODL's professional blog.
I approached it like any technical piece: pulling specs from internal brand messaging guides, cross-referencing outside industry sources, and outlining the structure (a material comparison table, R/U-value data, a maintenance-by-material breakdown) before I started drafting. I later repurposed that same research into a social carousel on energy efficiency and door materials, so one piece of long-form work became more than one asset.
